The college of materials science and engineering in QUST was founded in March, 2006. The history of the college can trend from the department of materials science and technology (established in 1996), and the college of materials and environmental science (established in 2001) of QUST. Currently, our college has the authorization to grant Ph.D. degrees in materials science, and also to grant Master¡¯s degrees in materials physics and chemistry, industry catalyst, inorganic chemistry, and materials engineering. In bachelor¡¯s education, we have four divisions, materials physics, materials chemistry, inorganic non-metal materials, and metal materials engineering.

 

Our college is home to many research centers, including Research Center for Nano Materials Engineering and Technology in Shandong Province (since 1994), Key Lab for Nano Materials Engineering and Technology in Shandong Province (since 1997), Key Lab for Nano Technology of Qingdao (since 2001), and National Testing Center for Nano Research (since 2004). The college was equipped with facilities of over 1 million dollar value. They are Field Emission SEM with EDS, JSM-6700F model, JEOL Company (2003); TEM, JEM-2000EX, JEOL Company (1990); XRD, INCA Energy, British Oxford Company (2003); DTA, STA449C/3/F model, German Netzsch Company (2000); STM/AFM, Swiss Nanosurf Company (2001), Mass Spectrometer (MS), HPR-20, British Hiden Company (2002); UV-Visible-IR Spectrophotometer, Cary 500, American Varian Company (2002); Scanning Probe Microscopy, American Vecco Company (2006).

 

There are totally 50 faculties in our college. The number of professors and associate professors is 20. Among them, Ph.D. supervisors are 6, Master¡¯s supervisors are 18, and 15 have Ph.D. degrees. The people granted with provincial level specialist are 4. Moreover, 3 of them are receiving allowance from The State Council. Over 1000 students are pursuing their degrees in our college, including 50 Master¡¯s students and 8 Doctor¡¯s candidates. 98 % of the bachelor students acquired a position after graduation, including some graduate students who continued their studies in nationally famous universities and research institutes. To nourish the students¡¯ interests on study, our college has provided ¡°Nano scholarship¡± to the excellent students. The educational goal of our college focus on producing graduates not only to master basic concepts and knowledge, but also to obtain entrepreneurial skills, product development, manufacturing and marketing through various internships and on-campus workshop trainings.
